the Kingdoms

The United Kingdom consists of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. What do you call these? i wanted to call them kingdoms but sounded funny.. they are still countries right? and does UK = GB ? hmm... and the Prince of Wales' Mother is the Queen of England? how does that work?
so what does Britain refer to...

sorry .. half way through writing this blog i went to google and found this:
United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland; note - Great Britain includes the countries of England, Scotland, and Wales.

Anyway, I was in Cardiff the capital of Wales. Cardiff is in the south of wales next to the sea. When I was checking into the hotel, the girl at reception thought that i lived in Wales because I had New South Wales as part of my address.. hehe I wonder if many people in the Wales know that there is a state in Australia called NSW.
